Inca Jungle: Permits Booking Regulations

The Inca Jungle Trek 4 Days does NOT require the strict government permits needed for the Classic Inca Trail. You only need a standard entry ticket to Machu Picchu and a train ticket, making booking much more flexible.

Understanding Inca Jungle Availability

Because the Inca Jungle route relies on public roads and alternative trails through the Santa Maria and Santa Teresa valleys, it is not subject to the 500-person daily limit imposed on the Classic Inca Trail by SERNANP. This means you do not need to book 6 to 8 months in advance.

However, the limiting factor for this tour is the Machu Picchu entrance ticket. The government limits the daily number of visitors to the archaeological site. To ensure you can enter Machu Picchu, we recommend booking the Inca Jungle Trek at least 4 to 8 weeks in advance, especially during the high season (May to September).

While the trail itself does not require a special permit, your entrance ticket to Machu Picchu must be secured in advance.

Passport Requirements

To secure your Machu Picchu tickets and train tickets, we require a copy of your valid passport at the time of booking. The passport details provided must exactly match the physical passport you will present at the Machu Picchu entrance gate. If you renew your passport after booking, you must bring both the old and new passports.

🧭 EXPEDITION DIRECTOR PERSPECTIVE:

“The flexibility of the Inca Jungle makes it perfect for spontaneous travelers. As long as we can secure your Machu Picchu entry, we can get you on bikes and down into the jungle with just a few days’ notice.”

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I hike Huayna Picchu with this trek?

Yes! You can add the Huayna Picchu mountain climb to your Machu Picchu visit. However, these tickets sell out very fast (often months in advance), so you must request this upgrade at the exact time of booking your trek.

Do I need to book the optional activities now?

No, you do not need to book the rafting or ziplining in advance. You can decide and pay for these directly in cash (Soles or USD) during the trek in Santa Maria and Santa Teresa.

What happens if my passport expires before the trek?

If you book with your current passport, your Machu Picchu tickets will be issued under that number. If you renew it, you must bring the expired passport along with your new one to Peru, as the park rangers will verify the original number.
