Complete 7-Day Itinerary Details
This carefully crafted itinerary allows for proper acclimatization. We begin with lower-exertion cultural tours around Cusco and the Sacred Valley, gradually preparing your body for the higher altitudes of Humantay and Rainbow Mountain.

Day 1: Acclimatization & Cusco City Tour
Upon your arrival in Cusco, we will transfer you to your hotel. Depending on your arrival time, the City Tour will take place in the morning or afternoon. You will explore the highlights of the Inca capital, including the Temple of the Sun (Qorikancha), the Cathedral, and the monumental archaeological sites of Sacsayhuaman, Qenqo, Tambomachay, and Pucapucara just outside the city.
Day 2: Chinchero, Maras & Moray
Today we venture into the Andean highlands. We start in Chinchero, an authentic Inca village famous for its textiles and sweeping views of snow-capped peaks. Next, we visit Moray, an impressive Inca agricultural laboratory featuring concentric circular terraces. We end the day at the Maras Salt Mines, a stunning network of thousands of ancient salt pools still harvested by locals today.

Day 3: Humantay Lake Hike
We depart Cusco early to hike up to the stunning Humantay Lake (4,200 m / 13,779 ft). This turquoise glacial lake sits at the base of the imposing Salkantay and Humantay mountains. The hike takes about 1.5 to 2 hours uphill. This day is your first real test of altitude, surrounded by unparalleled natural beauty.
Day 4: The Sacred Valley of the Incas
We descend into the Sacred Valley, a fertile region that served as the breadbasket of the Inca Empire. We will visit the vibrant market and archaeological site of Pisac, followed by a buffet lunch in Urubamba. In the afternoon, we explore the massive fortress of Ollantaytambo. From here, you will board the evening train to Aguas Calientes, resting at the foot of Machu Picchu.

Day 5: Machu Picchu
The crown jewel of the trip. You will take an early bus up to the sanctuary of Machu Picchu for a comprehensive 2-hour guided tour of its temples, terraces, and plazas. If you secured permits, you can hike Huayna Picchu or Machu Picchu Mountain afterward. In the afternoon, we return by train to Ollantaytambo and transfer back to your hotel in Cusco.
Day 6: Rainbow Mountain (Vinicunca)
Today we conquer the famous Rainbow Mountain (5,036 m / 16,522 ft). This challenging but rewarding hike takes you through surreal landscapes painted with vivid mineral colors. The thin air makes the trek demanding, but reaching the summit to witness the rainbow-striped ridges alongside the Ausangate glacier is an unforgettable achievement.
Day 7: South Valley Tour & Departure
Your final day takes you to the lesser-visited South Valley. We explore Tipon, a masterpiece of Inca hydraulic engineering; Pikillacta, a massive pre-Inca Wari city; and the Church of San Pedro Apostol in Andahuaylillas, known as the “Sistine Chapel of the Americas.” After the tour, we will transfer you to the airport for your onward journey.

Frequently Asked Questions
Can I change the order of the days?
This itinerary is specifically designed to aid acclimatization. We start with lower altitudes (City Tour, Sacred Valley) before tackling the high-altitude hikes (Humantay and Rainbow Mountain). However, if your schedule requires it, we can customize the order of the day tours.
Are the hikes to Humantay and Rainbow Mountain difficult?
Yes, due to the high altitude. Humantay Lake is at 4,200m and Rainbow Mountain is over 5,000m. The hikes are relatively short (1.5 – 2 hours up) but the lack of oxygen makes them strenuous. We highly recommend renting a horse from the local communities if you feel fatigued.
Where do we sleep during this 7-day tour?
Unlike trekking routes, this package is hotel-based. You will spend 5 nights in a comfortable hotel in Cusco and 1 night in a hotel in Aguas Calientes (Machu Picchu town). You do not need sleeping bags or camping gear.
